MTG Mechnic Discussion: Infect

Putrefax

It’s been awhile but my friends have convinced me to get back into Magic The Gathering and I fell off the wagon hard.

Earlier in the week I bought a Mirrodin Besieged booster box so I could catch up with some of the new mechanics in this artifact heavy set and I have to say that infect is my new best friend. Now before the haters move in for the kill let me just say that I am a casual player; I don’t play in tournaments and only occasionally do I attend Friday Night Magic and booster drafts. If you want advice on building highly competitive decks then you probably will not agree with most of my suggestions since I play to have fun and not to win money.

A Battle of the Coasts: Los Angeles vs. New York City

By Allie Ferrara / NYC

Welcome to Hollywood. For reference, Downtown Hollywood is a less anxiety-inducing version of Times Square.

Working and living in New York City winters are brutal enough to make any metropolitan denizen drop their briefcases and immediately book it for warmer scenery. I had this exact realization one January morning when the temperatures were registering around 15 degrees. “Los Angeles,” I thought to myself, “perfect!”

Meet our New York City Correspondent, Allie Ferrara

In short, I am a polyglot, turophiliac, writer, foodie and wino, Arabist, LGBT activist and a corporate misfit.

Originally from the South but raised in the North, my favorite foods are from the far east. By day I work on Wall Street, by night I work on just about everything else from my fledgling first book to my recipes.

I am Smith College educated and with that, a firebrand feminist. You can hear my opinions on just about everything by following me on Twitter or on Yelp.

TV Show Round Up: American Idol News

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

Last week, America said goodbye to Karen Rodriguez. Haley Reinhart and Naima Adedapo were the bottom two saved from elimination.

11 contestants remain, six male, five female.

Performances:

The guys and girls opened the elimination show with a West Side Storyesque battle, singing a mashup of “Born to be Wild” and “Born this Way.” The season 9 champ, Lee DeWyze  sang “Beautiful Like You” and The Black Eyed Peas performed their new single, “Just can’t Get Enough” (they dedicated the performance to Japan).

As for the contestants, last week was all about songs from the year they were born (wow, Casey Abrams, 1991…really?):
Naimia- “What’s Love got to do with It.”
Paul- “I guess that’s why they call it the Blues.”
Thia- “Colors of the Wind.”
James- “i’ll be there for you.”
Haley- “I’m your baby tonight.”
Stefano- “If you don’t Know me by Now.”
Pia- “Where do Broken Hearts Go.”
Scott- “Can I trust you with My Heart.”
Karen- “Love will Lead You Back.”
Casey- “Smells like Teen Spirit.” (or Casey’s BO).
Lauren- “I’m the only one.”
Jacob- “Alone.”

Through His Eyes

By Andrew Luk / Boston

The combination of wind and cold in Boston is torturous (at times more so than The Windy City).
