A Review of Coachella 2011

By Julie Davis / Boston

Empire of the Sun

It was like walking on a dream watching Empire of the Sun.

Amazing performers Their music was perfect, I could definitely find myself swaying back with my mind just all into the music. They sang all the songs that I love from them really well. They had the best performance. The awesome and highly detailed costumes and dancers and choreography were the best part.

Ratatat

I hadn’t heard of them before but going to the performance in the mojavi tent was amazing. We posted up right in the front to get a good place to listen and feel the crazy bass of the beats. I ended up loving them. I am definitely going to go download their album now!

Chromeo

Best lighting!!!!!!! The lighting at Chromeo’s performance was one of my favorites. There was so much color. It really grabbed my attention and made me really feel the music.

Loved dancing on the grass at sundown with the cool breeze to their amazing funky tunes with all time fav songs like “Bonafied Loving” and “Fancy Footwork.” They were also a very fun and friendly band. That as def a plus!

Cee lo green

Wow. This performance was interesting.

Cee lo Green – an artist we were all looking forward too. Although he was late by 30 mins he still had a good performance especially when he performed his famous “Fuck you” song…..until he got cut off because he went over his time slot. That’s when he really said, “fuck you” to the Coachella stage crew.

He was def not happy and neither were we.

Chemical Brothers

I LOVE THE CHEMICAL BROS!!!!

After looking forward to this headliner performance on the first night of Coachella, it was def much better than I thought it would be. I was so satisfied with the performance. Perfect music, perfect lights and I especially loved the animations played on the right and left screens that went along with the awesome beats. Best song they sang was of course “GALVANIZED”.

Black keys

It was packeddddd!! We got a good spot on the grass at the main outdoor stage. Not much to say about them but simply that they were awesome and had total control over their audience with their music.

Arcade Fire

The Headliner for Saturday was Arcade Fire. Having never heard a lot about them made the whole experience more amazing as their music really got me falling hard for them. They played a great set and had an amazing crowd.

Beer garden and food

Getting into the beer garden wasn’t hard at all. It was a smooooth process.

However, at night is when the Beer Garden got real crowded. The beer was alright; it was just Heineken and Newcastle. There wasn’t much of a variety of alcohol, which was a little upsetting.

But not too big of a deal. It was still nice to get into the beer garden and get a seat at a bench with everyone and have a couple drinks and grab a quick bite before going back to watch another performance.

Food was sooooooo yummmmers as always at Coachella. We had fresh coconuts during the hot and parching weather of Indio. They had all kinds of food; from Indian to burgers to Chinese food to Hawaiian BBQ and so much more. However, even though they had so many different kinds of food from all over the world, I would have to say that this year the best was the good ole chicken strips and fries!
