TV Show Round Up: American Idol News

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

Last week, America said goodbye to Karen Rodriguez. Haley Reinhart and Naima Adedapo were the bottom two saved from elimination.

11 contestants remain, six male, five female.

Performances:

The guys and girls opened the elimination show with a West Side Storyesque battle, singing a mashup of “Born to be Wild” and “Born this Way.” The season 9 champ, Lee DeWyze  sang “Beautiful Like You” and The Black Eyed Peas performed their new single, “Just can’t Get Enough” (they dedicated the performance to Japan).

As for the contestants, last week was all about songs from the year they were born (wow, Casey Abrams, 1991…really?):
Naimia- “What’s Love got to do with It.”
Paul- “I guess that’s why they call it the Blues.”
Thia- “Colors of the Wind.”
James- “i’ll be there for you.”
Haley- “I’m your baby tonight.”
Stefano- “If you don’t Know me by Now.”
Pia- “Where do Broken Hearts Go.”
Scott- “Can I trust you with My Heart.”
Karen- “Love will Lead You Back.”
Casey- “Smells like Teen Spirit.” (or Casey’s BO).
Lauren- “I’m the only one.”
Jacob- “Alone.”

Here’s what you missed last week on the box: The Roast of Donald Trump

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

By far, the funniest event on TV last week goes to the Roast of Donald Trump, hosted by Family Guy’s Seth McFarlane.  The usual roasters Jeffrey Ross, and Lisa Lampanelli were in attendance, but sadly Greg Giraldo was not. He passed away in September, but newby Anthony Jeselnik handled the job well.

Special guest roasters included Larry King, Snoop Dogg, Whitney Cummings, Mike Sorrentino, aka the Situation (yeah, he was invited for some strange reason, but I’ll get to his terrible performance in a minute) and Marlee Matlin (deaf actress, currently on celebrity apprentice).

TV Show Round Up: Tuesday

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

To help summarize the best moments of the week, Joel McHale puts together the funniest clips of those shows you really don’t want to spend the time watching. Here’s what I found to be his best stuff for the week (I guess that means I’m summarizing a summary).

Bethenny Frankel learns about a big gay ice cream truck, The Bad Girls Club got a new housemate, who apparently has a drinking problem…or is it a peeing problem? You decide. Phil on Survivor, the “ex-federal agent,” gets a little gropey with his fellow castmates.

TV Show Round Up: Monday

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

Premieres
VH1 premiered three news shows this week, all with the promise of being absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know where they find these people, but it makes for some very interesting television.

WEDDING WARS, VH1, Mondays

It was the premier of Wedding Wars, a reality show where twelve couples battle it out to win their dream wedding. They will be staying at the Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii, and the winner will receive a one hundred thousand wedding there with a 25 thousand dollar nest egg for after. By any standard math equation, this is an obvious recipe for juicy drama. The kicker to the whole show, is that instead of living in the luxurious resort, the couples are living in in the jungle in air huts (they weren’t aware of this in the beginning). So now you have wedding crazed women, slowly contracting jungle fever (and not in the sexual way). On the first episode, the couples competed for bridal gowns and tuxes in a gift challenge, and then there was the “cake topper” security challenge. The couple that wins the challenge is safe from elimination for the week. To heighten the drama to the highest point possible, the couples are the ones who determine who to vote off at the end of each episode. Within the first ten minutes, one of the contestants already needed medical attention, after injuring her toe when it was stepped on by another contestant’s heel. So is it worth watching? For brain power… no, but for entertainment purposes, and to feel better about your life, I say go for it. The first couple to go was Johnny and Celestria. I’m voting for the Machester, NH couple to make it all the way…Live Free or Die son.

Only The Good Die Young…

In This Case The Good Is Lovespring International

By Gabi Conti / LA

Before Sue Slyvester—

Jane Lynch starred in this delightful TV show I stumbled across on Hulu called Lovespring International.

The opening title card says it all:

“An elite Beverly Hills Dating Service”

“Located in Tarzana, California”.

Genius.

Tuesday Night TV Show Recap

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

Feel Good Shows

GLEE: Fox, Tuesdays at 8 pm

The Glee club does two hot numbers that totally make this week’s episode worth watching. First, a rendition of Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It On the Alcohol”, as well as Kesha’s “Tik Tok“. Plus, there’s an epic vomiting scene and a very surprising make out between two Glee Clubbers that you’d never see coming. Does the show exaggerate high school issues in an over the top way? Yes it does…but you gotta love the style they do it in. How can you resist people randomly bursting into song? You did that in school right?

Monday Night TV Show Recap

By Lindsay Burrill / Boston

Hey party people,

To get you ready for your “stories” tonight here’s what you missed last Monday (if you were too busy watching Charlie Sheen unleash his Tigerblood secrets all over the world).

What Will Make You Laugh

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER-CBS, Mondays at 8 pm.

Sometimes I flip back and forth between this and House. However, this week How I Met Your Mother won the race. Now I realize the bachelor is also on at 8 pm, but there is a much funnier bachelor on TV and his name is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). This week’s episode was very worth watching as Barney explains his rules on dating..however all of those rules are immediately overlooked if the girl is hott (funny how that works). It’s a lighthearted comedy with some heavy perverse jokes.
